Chinese Language Class – Beginner Level I

Chinese classes are back at Asia Society! This beginner course provides adult language learners with a basic introduction and foundation in Mandarin Chinese. This course will cover the Hanyu Pinyin phonetic transcription system, as well as the pronunciation and uses of many vocabulary terms and idiomatic expressions. Students will create a foundation for long-term study or simply acquire the skills necessary for basic communication while in China for business or pleasure. This class emphasizes listening and pronunciation skills, and does not require the memorization of written characters or any previous knowledge of Chinese.
Materials for the course will be provided.

About the Instructor
Hua Xiao is currently a Mandarin Chinese teacher at the International Leadership of Texas. She graduated with a Masters in Applied Linguistics for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education. With over 10 years of language teaching experience, she is also an advanced-level English-Chinese interpreter specializing in the fields of medicine and finance.
