About the Series

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, we’re doing everything we can to flatten the curve — but even though the museum is closed, and we’re working from home, we still talk to artists around the world every day. Here in Houston, in Italy, in China, in San Francisco … artists, like all of us, are weathering the coronavirus personally and professionally.

We will bring these conversations with artists — wherever they are — to wherever you are.

About Laura Drey

Laura Drey is a multidisciplinary artist based in Houston, Texas who exhibits and performs locally, nationally, and internationally. In 2019, Drey received a grant from The Warhol Foundation’s Idea Fund for her project Unsettled Space…by way of crops. She has been an artist-in-residence at Arquetopia International Residency in Oaxaca, Mexico, and The Ox-Bow School of Art & Artists’ Residency (Saugatuck, Michigan). In addition to maintaining a studio practice, she has worked as an art educator, a graphic designer, and a production artist. Drey is also a founding member of the collective MotherArt: Revisited.

About Julia Barbosa Landois

Julia Barbosa Landois is a performance, installation, and video artist based in Houston, Texas. Her work has been featured in galleries, museums, and performance festivals in the United States, Latin America, and Europe. Awards include grants from Artpace and the Artist Foundation of San Antonio (Texas), and residencies at the Santa Fe Art Institute (New Mexico), Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder (Trondheim, Norway), and Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin, Germany). Barbosa Landois has worked as a studio artist, itinerant professor, preparator, exhibitions coordinator, and – contrary to popular assumptions regarding the artist brain – a math tutor. She was a 2018-2019 Studio Resident at the Lawndale Art Center (Houston) and received a grant from the National Association of Latino Arts & Cultures in 2019 to co-create MantecaHTX.
