US/Central
Presented by Anne C. Klein, professor of religious studies, Rice University; cofounder, Dawn Mountain
Art inspires. It has a spirit and vitality that lifts us out of everyday humdrum, as we allow ourselves to feel the fresh winds of wonder coursing through us.
We have spirit, too. It is the most intimate part of our experience—our mood, our resilience, our openness to connecting with the inner template of our world, not just its material expression. Tibetans call such spirit la and describe it as potently sensitive to all its surroundings. Whether the la is of a person or a river, it responds to care.
The art of care is the art of life, and at the heart of artful living is our love of the visual, audible, and performing arts. During this program, Anne C. Klein discusses and helps the audience experience the cultivation of artful care, especially through the art of bringing deep yet open attention to the art around us and our response to it. In this way, we can orient to bringing the inspiration of art into the artful living of our own lives.
