By the late 1980s and early 1990s, art emerged as a source of reflecting upon the failure of the Cuban Revolution’s promises of utopia. This panel discussion explores how, through tremendous wit and humor, Cuban artists have carved out a place for themselves locally and also outside of the island—particularly since the late 1990s and early 2000s, when entry and exit restrictions loosened up in Cuba.
This artist-centered dialogue is organized by the International Center for the Arts of the Americas (ICAA) at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in conjunction with the exhibition Adiós Utopia: Dreams and Deceptions in Cuban Art Since 1950.
Drop in! This event is free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
