Drawing on recent research about occult sciences and associated material culture, the lecture “Art and Shi’ism: Definitions, Evidence, and Challenges” offers a journey through Shi’i art.
This is the inaugural lecture in the newly endowed “Syed Safdar and Samina Kazimi Lecture in Shi`i Studies” presented by the School of Humanities, Rice University.
About the Speaker
Francesca Leoni, the assistant keeper and curator of Islamic art at the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology at the University of Oxford, was previously curator of art of the Islamic worlds at the MFAH. She has held curatorial and research posts at Rice University and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
