The Children’s Museum of Houston makes a retro throwback to activities celebrating the third generation of computer and video games commonly known as 8-bit technology. Whether you are an 8- bit seasoned-pro or gaming newbie you are guaranteed to have a blast experiencing the technology that became a game changer. Bring your camera!

Special Activities:

  • 8- Bit Scavenger Hunt: Participate in a scavenger hunt by visiting 8-bit stations to collect four of the six stamps for a prize (while supplies last) and then enter your completed punch-card for a chance to win a mystery grand prize box!
  • 8- Bit Stations
    • Creepin' me out mask: Get inspired and create a Minecraft Creeper Mask at Junktion.
    • Bloxels: Design and animate your own 8-bit video game hero at Science Station. 
    • Decoding Drawings:  Complete three drawings by decoding the instructions at Coding Hangout!
    • Makey Makey Arcade: Bust out your creative skills to build a controller for an arcade game at Inventor's Workshop.
    • Video Games: Check out our assortment of arcade games and compete for the highest score!
    • Motion Magix: Play our interactive game with others and see who can pop the most orbs by using your body to move, leap, and stomp in Power Play Mezzanine. 

ON-GOING ACTIVITIES:

  • Robot Lab: Tap into your creativity and create your own unique robot artwork by mixing and matching craft materials at Art Academy.
  • Inspired by Nature: Test your knowledge when you try to match inventions to their natural inspirations at EcoStation.
  • Shark Skimmer: Transform into Jaws when you craft your own hat with dorsal and caudal fins at EcoStation
  • Master Yoda Ears: Transform into Jedi Master Yoda when you create his famous ears at Junktion
  • Robot Rob Mask: Craft your very own robot mask at Junktion
  • "To Boldly Go”: Become part of the Star Trek Enterprise Crew when you design your own staff uniform at Junktion
  • Droid in Distress: Power up your droid through batteries before your opponent does at Math Cart.
  • Build-a-Bot: Create a robot figure by connecting various geometric shapes at Math Cart.
  • Mindstorms Obstacle Course: Engineer your own Lego EV3 Mindstorms to learn basic coding in the Maker Annex. Maker Annex: Monday-Saturday 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Thursday 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Sunday 12 p.m.-6 p.m.

  • Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
    Thursday, 10:00 am - 8:00 pm
    Sunday, 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
    Closed Mondays. Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Easter Sunday.  
  • General Admission: $17 per person and $16 for seniors 65 years and older. FREE for children under one and Museum Members. Free Hours: FREE FAMILY NIGHT: Thursdays 5 pm - 8 pm.
