About Jawwaad Taylor
Jawwaad Taylor is a hip hop artist, trumpet player, composer, and educator. His eclectic sound bucks tradition and fuses hip hop, electronics, jazz, and improvisation. Taylor garnered international attention for the 2007 critically acclaimed release of Craft of the Lost Ark with his group Shape of Broad Minds. He has performed with jazz, free jazz, and improvisors, as well as hip hop artists from all walks of life; the list spans MF DOOM to Wadada Leo Smith. He is a former member of the Deep Listening Houston Youth Ensemble and continues to participate in deep listening workshops. Taylor’s unique sound allows him to tour throughout the world. He tours with The Young Mothers, his project with internationally renowned bass player Ingebrigt Håker Flaten. Visual aesthetics play an important role in Taylor’s performances. He now works with many visual artists from glitch to sculptors and is changing the way listeners interact with music.
20HERTZ is a lecture series conceived around themes of musical influence in everyday life. The series asks artists, musicians, and all-around-creatives to share the music that has influenced them throughout their lives.
