Preetika Rajgariah
I Ain’t Sari
Cecily E. Horton Gallery

A play on words referencing hip-hop culture, Preetika Rajgariah’s I Ain’t Sari presents an impactful visualization regarding women, race, and sexuality. Utilizing bold combinations of colors and textures, the viewer is drawn into the space to see brightly painted walls, intricately manipulated saris draped in nontraditional ways, and bodily sculptures filling the space that the audience must navigate through.

Jonathan Molina-Garcia
The Bethesda Brotherhood
Project Space

The project shadows self-identified, HIV-positive men over 50 years of age, whom the artist met on a gay cruising website. Taking their shared HIV status as a starting point, the project includes photographic prints, performances for the camera, and book media that emerge out of the intergenerational exchange of knowledge and understanding at the crux of their interactions.

Michael Bhichitkul
Parading Rain
Mary E. Bawden Sculpture Garden

Beginning with the phrase, “Don’t rain on my parade…” and combined with current explorations of using water as a medium, this outdoor installation twists the banal and usual in an absurd way. The displacement of objects reveals the absurdity of their existence, activating new ways of experiencing the commonplace.
